Bangladesh reported 2,695 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours till Thursday to bring the total infections to 234,889.

Besides, the death tally in the country jumped to 3,083 with the deaths of 48 more Covid-19 patients during the period.

Of the new deceased, 36 are men and 12 are women. Among the total dead, 2,424 or 78.62 percent are men while 659 or 21.38 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 2,668 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 132,960.

Prof Nasima said 12,937 samples were tested in 82 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 1,164,195 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 20.83 percent while the infection rate 20.18 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 56.61 while the mortality rate is 1.31 percent.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 35 deaths from coronavirus and 3,009 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus continued to ravage the entire world as 293,877 cases were registered in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday.

In total, confirmed Covid-19 cases have reached 17,187,409, according to Worldometer.

The death toll from coronavirus has climbed to 670,201 across the world.

Of the currently infected 5,819,233 patients, 5,752,843 are in mild condition while 66,390 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 10,697,975 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 241,577 recovered in the last 24 hours.
