Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 2,55,113 with the detection of 2,611 more infections in the past 24 hours till Saturday (8 August).

Besides, the deadly virus claimed the lives of 32 more people during the period to take the total death toll in the country to 3,365.

Of the new deceased, 25 are men and 7 are women. Among the total dead, 2,655 or 78.90 percent are men while 710 or 21.10 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,020 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 1,46,604.

Prof Nasima said 11,737 samples were tested in 84 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 1,249,560 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 22.45 percent while the infection rate 20.42 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 57.47 while the mortality rate is 1.32 percent.

On Friday (7 August), Bangladesh reported 27 deaths from coronavirus and 2,851 cases.

In total, confirmed Covid-19 cases have reached 19,264,616, according to Worldometer.

Besides, the death toll from coronavirus has reached 717,754 across the world.

Of the currently infected 6,183,069 patients, 6,117,800 are in mild condition while 65,269 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 12,363,793 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 5,032,179 and 162,804 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 2,917,562 cases and 98,644 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 2,030,001 cases.
