A Cox's Bazar court on Monday granted bail to Rifatul Islam Sifat, one of the two companions of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan who was killed by police, in two cases.
At the same time, the judge of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court handed over the onus of investigation into the two cases — one filed over killing and the other under the Narcotics Control Act — to Rapid Action Battalion from police.
On Sunday, acting judge Tamanna Farah set Monday for hearing bail pleas of Sifat.
Also on Sunday, Sinha’s another companion Shipra Rani Devnath secured bail in a drug case.
Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf upazila on July 31.
His elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.
Sifat and Shipra were arrested after police filed separate cases against them.
Seven police personnel, including officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradip Kumar Das and inspector Liakat Ali, were suspended in connection with the killing of Sinha.
