Bangladesh registered 2,995 more coronavirus cases in a 24-hour period till Wednesday to take the total to 266,498.

Besides, the deadly virus took the lives of 42 more Covid-19 patients during the period, bringing the death tally in the country to 3,513.

Of the new deceased, 33 are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 2,782 or 79.19 percent are men while 731 or 20.81 are women.

The information was revealed through a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the afternoon.

According to the press release, 1,117 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 153,089 people have so far made recovery in the country.

During the period, 14,751 samples were tested in labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,302,739 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 20.30 percent while the infection rate 20.46 against total tests carried out so far.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 57.44 while the mortality rate is 1.32 percent.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported 33 deaths from coronavirus and 2,996 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus continued to ravage the entire world as Covid-19 cases have reached 20,525,620 as of Wednesday noon.

Besides, 745,964 people have so far lost their lives to the virus in different countries, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 6,333,273 patients, 6,268,609 are in mild condition while 64,664 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 13,446,383 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. 

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 5,305,957 and 167,749 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 3,112,393 cases and 103,099 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 2,330,327 cases.
