Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), has been made additional director general (planning and development) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The Health Services Division under the Health and Family Welfare Ministry issued a gazette notification on Thursday in this regard.
As per the notification, the appointment will come into effect on August 20.
Prof Flora, an epidemiologist and public health specialist, joined the IEDCR as its director in 2016.
She is a fellow of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research. She is also the vice-president of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes.
Flora enrolled in Dhaka Medical College in 1983. After obtaining her MBBS degree, she worked in several multinational institutions. She received her master's degree in epidemiology from the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (Nipsom) and she received her PhD degree from the University of Cambridge.
Later, she worked at the Bangladesh Medical Research Council for three years as its assistant director.
She joined Nipsom as an assistant professor of the Department of Epidemiology and was promoted to a professor gradually.
