Lamenting that there had been no scope for seeking justice for the barbaric August 15 assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said her government wants to change this system.
"Presently, people can seek justice and file case for any murder. But we had no such scope … I want to change that system. We’re always alert so that country’s people can stay safe, lead a beautiful life and so that justice is established where all people will enjoy their rights," she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing a milad and doa mahfil virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.
The Social Services Department arranged the special milad and doa mahfil on the occasion of the National Mourning Day that falls on Saturday.
Sheikh Hasina said she herself and her younger sister who survived the assassination as they had been abroad at that time could not file any case against the killers and even could not seek justice.
She pledged to stay beside those who are lagging behind, including the orphans and distressed children, to ensure their meaningful life and livelihoods.
The Prime Minister also urged all concerned to stand beside the people like orphans, elderly people, autistic and disabled persons as well as those who are still lagging behind.
She said orphans should not think that they do not have parents or guardians, rather the government stands beside them to ensure their better livelihood.
