Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have jumped to 271,881 with the detection of 2,766 more cases in the last 24 hours till Friday.

Besides, the virus claimed the lives of 34 more Covid-19 patients during the period to take the total fatalities in the country to 3,591.

Of the new deceased, 28 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 2,841 or 79.11 percent are men while 750 or 20.89 are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

According to the press release, 1,752 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 156,623 people have so far made recovery in the country.

During the period, 12,856 samples were tested in labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,328,757 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.52 percent while the infection rate 20.46 against total tests carried out so far.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 57.91 while the mortality rate is 1.32 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh recorded 44 deaths from coronavirus and 2,617 cases.

Meanwhile, the death toll from coronavirus across the world has crossed the 7.5-lakh mark to reach 757,457 as of Friday noon.

Besides, the deadly virus has so far sickened 21,071,499 people in different countries, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 6,390,869 patients, 6,326,370 are in mild condition while 64,499 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 13,923,173 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. 

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 5,415,666 and 170,415 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 3,229,621 cases and 105,564 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 2,461,542 cases.
