A total of 61,216 Bangladeshi workers have so far returned home from different countries losing their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, said Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Saturday.
He came up with the information while talking to reporters after paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman placing a wreath at his portrait at the Probashi Kalyan Bhaban in the morning, marking the National Mourning Day.
The minister cited economic recessions in different countries, including European ones, as the main reason behind the return of these expatriates.
He said Tk 200 crore will be given to those infected with coronavirus and Tk 500 crore more will be given to those returned from abroad as loan assistance.
Besides, the returnees will be given training to enhance their skills, Imran said.
