Coronavirus cases rose by 2,485 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours till Monday, bringing the total infections to 297,083.

Besides, 42 more people succumbed to the virus during the period to take the total casualties to 3,983.

Of the new deceased, 31 are men and 11 are women. Among the total dead, 3,137 or 78.86 percent are men while 846 or 21.24 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 3,784 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 182,875.

During the period, 13,382 samples were tested in 91 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,456,038 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 18.57 percent while the infection rate 20.40 against total tests carried out so far.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 61.56 percent while the mortality rate is 1.34 percent.

On Sunday, Bangladesh reported 34 deaths from coronavirus and 1,973 cases after testing 10,801 samples.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has surged to 812,517 as of Monday morning.

Besides, the virus has so far infected 23,584,259 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 6,689,638 patients, 6,628,123 are in mild condition while 61,515 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 16,082,104 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 5,874,146 and 180,604 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 3,605,783 cases and 114,772 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 3,105,185 cases.
