Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed for finding out the actual reasons behind the explosions at the Narayanganj mosque that killed 24 people and injured 16 others, saying it is also being investigated whether the mosque was constructed flouting rules.
She made the remarks talking part in the discussion on a condolence motion in Parliament at the beginning of the 9th session.
The Prime Minister said the BDR mutiny took place under the patronage of the 1/11 actors and BNP.
The parliament session began at 11am amid the coronavirus pandemic to fulfil the constitutional obligation.
As per the custom, the condolence motion on the death of Dhaka-18 MP Sahara Khatun, Naogaon-6 MP Israfil Alam and former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee was adopted on the opening day.
Six air conditioners exploded during Esha prayers at Baitus Salam Mosque in Fatullah on Friday, leaving 24 people dead and 16 others injured so far.
An electric transformer near the mosque exploded with a big bang. Soon, six air conditioners of the mosque went off and sparked a fire inside the mosque.
The explosion took place due to the leakage in the gas pipeline.
Around 40 devotees suffered burn injuries in the incident.
They were first taken to Sadar Hospital from where 37 were sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where 24 of the succumbed to their injuries.
