Sinha killing: Probe report reaches Home Ministry

The probe body formed by the Home Ministry to look into the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in police firing submitted its report on Monday.

The committee, led by Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, submitted the report to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.

The committee members went to the ministry around 11:30am.

Armed Forces Division representative in the committee Lt Col SM Sajjad was present.

The probe panel prepared its report after talking to all concerned, including suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradip Kumar Das, in-charge of Baharchhara police investigation centre Inspector Liyakat Ali and sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit.

It is also supposed to put forward recommendations to prevent the reoccurrence of such incident in the future.

Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf upazila on July 31.

On August 2, the Home Ministry formed a three-member investigation committee to look into the incident. Later on August 4, the probe panel was reconstituted with Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman as its head.

Sinha’s elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5 over the killing.

Thirteen people, including 10 policemen, were arrested over the killing of the former army officer.
