Coronavirus cases jump by 1,792 in Bangladesh

Reported coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have surged to 334,762 with the detection of 1,792 more infections over the last 24 hours till Friday.

Besides, 34 more Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus during the period, bringing the total casualties to 4,668. 

Of the new deceased, 25 are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 3,638 or 77.93 percent are men while 1,030 or 22.07 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,474 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 236,024.  

During the period, 14,747 samples were tested in 94 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,704,758 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 12.15 percent in the last hours while the overall infection rate is 19.64 percent.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 70.51 percent while the mortality rate is 1.39 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh registered 41 deaths from coronavirus and 1,892 cases after testing 15,559 samples.

Meanwhile, coronavirus fatalities across the world have reached 913,918 as of Friday morning.

Besides, the virus has so far sickened 28,328,080 people around the globe, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 7,071,462 patients, 60,738 are in mild condition while 60,738 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 20,342,700 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 6,588,163 and 196,328 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 4,562,414 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 129,575.
