Bangladesh sees fall in Covid-19 cases
Coronavirus cases

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 336,044 with the registration of 1,282 more infections over the last 24 hours till Saturday.

Besides, 34 more Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus during the period, bringing the total casualties to 4,702. 

Of the new deceased, 23 are men and 11 are women. Among the total dead, 3,661 or 77.86 percent are men while 1,041 or 22.14 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,247  more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 238,271.  

During the period, 10,723 samples were tested in 94 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,715,481 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 11.96 percent in the last hours while the overall infection rate is 19.59 percent.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 70.90 percent while the mortality rate is 1.40 percent.

On Friday, Bangladesh recorded 34 deaths from coronavirus and 1,792 cases after testing 14,747 samples.

Meanwhile, coronavirus fatalities across the world have jumped to 919,715 as of Saturday morning.

Besides, 28,659,610 people have so far been infected with the virus around the globe, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 7,153,914 patients, 7,093,019 are in mild condition while 60,895 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 20,585,981 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 6,636,247 and 197,421 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 4,659,984 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of130,474.
