Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said people are the source of their party's strength, not gun barrel.
"As a party of the soil and people, Awami League has made its place deep into people's hearts," he said while addressing the opening ceremony of the representatives’ conference of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh virtually from his official residence.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said Awami League has been by the people during any disaster and crisis for the last 70 years. "Those who consider Awami League a house of cards are living in the fool's paradise."
Turning to the coronavirus prevalence, he said the second wave of the pandemic might hit Bangladesh in winter as per the apprehension of experts.
The ruling party leaders urged all to remain alert and mandatorily wear masks.
The minister called upon the engineers to play a strong role in implementing government's mega plans to turn Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.
