The total number of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh has reached 341,056 with the detection of 1,724 more infections in the last 24 hours till Tuesday. 

Besides, the virus took the lives of 43 more Covid-19 patients during the period to bring the death toll to 4,802.

Of the new deceased, 36 are men and seven are women. Among the total dead, 3,744 or 77.97 percent are men while 1,058 or 22.03 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,439 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 245,594.

During the period, 14,050 samples were tested in 94 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,756,746 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 12.27 percent in the last hours while the overall positivity rate is 19.41 percent.

The recovery rate in Bangladesh continued to increase reaching 72.01 percent while the country has one of the lowest mortality rates in the world -- 1.41 percent.

On Monday, Bangladesh reported 26 deaths and 1,812 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,216 samples.

Meanwhile, the death toll from coronavirus around the world has jumped to 932,744 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, the virus has so far infected 29,445,688 people in different countries, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 7,233,111 patients, 7,172,313 are in mild condition while 60,798 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 21,279,833 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 6,749,289 and 199,000 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 4,930,236 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 132,117.
