Bangladesh on Friday recorded 1,541 more infections from coronavirus over the last 24 hours to take the total caseload to 345,805.

Besides, the death tally from the highly contagious virus has reached 4,881 after the 22 more people lost their battle against it during the period.

Of the new deceased, 16 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 3,804 or 77.93 percent are men while 1,077 or 22.07 percent are women.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 1,923 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 252,335.  

During the period, 12,730 samples were tested in 94 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,796,509 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 12.11 percent in the last hours while the overall infection rate is 19.25 percent.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 72.97 percent while the mortality rate is 1.41 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh recorded 36 deaths and 1,593 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,673 samples.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has surged past 9.5 lakh to reach 950,555 as of Friday morning.

Besides, 30,349,591 have so far been infected with the virus around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 7,360,448 patients, 7,299,319 are in mild condition while 61,129 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 22,038,588 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 6,874,596 and 202,213 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 5,212,686 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 135,031.
