Narayanganj mosque blast: Eight suspended Titas staffers arrested

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested eight suspended officials and employees of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd in a case filed over the Narayanganj mosque explosion that left 32 people dead. 

They were arrested on Saturday noon. 

The arrestees are Sirajul Islam, Mahmudur Rahman Rabbi, SM Hasan Shahriar, Manik Mia, Monibur Rahman Chowdhury, Ayub Ali, Hanif Mia and Ismail Prodhan. 

Titas authorities suspended them on charge of negligence of duty over the mosque explosion.

Meanwhile, another victim of the Narayanganj mosque explosion has died while undergoing treatment, taking the death toll from the incident to 32.

He succumbed to his burn injuries at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Besides, four other burn victims were fighting for their lives at the hospital while another one was discharged from the hospital as he made recovery.

Police and witnesses said the explosion took place around 8:45pm during Esha prayers on September 4 when the devotees just finished their prayers.

The explosion took place due to the leakage in the gas pipeline, leaving 40 people injured.

They were first taken to Sadar Hospital and 37 of them later sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
