A Dhaka court on Monday placed national award-winning dancer and choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Human Trafficking Deterrence and Suppression Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Yasmin Ara passed the order after hearing a remand petition filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.
On September 15, the CID sought a seven-day remand for Ivan for interrogation.
The court sent Ivan to jail on September 12 in the case filed on charge of trafficking women to the United Arab Emirates. He was denied bail the following day.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of CID Sheikh Rezaul Haider on September 11 said they arrested Ivan on charge of trafficking women to Dubai in the name of working in a dance bar.
He said they recently arrested five members of a human trafficking gang.
Two of them in their confession divulged the name of Ivan and the arrest was made on the basis of their confession, the police official said.
Ivan who used to run a dance troupe bagged the National Film Award as the best choreographer for his work in the film 'Dhat Teri Ki' in 2017.
