A case has now been filed against Vice-president (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur and five others on charges of abduction, rape and abetting the rape.
A young girl filed the case with Kotwali Police Station of Dhaka also under the Digital Security Act on Monday, said its officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman.
Earlier on Sunday night, a rape case was filed against the Ducsu VP and five other people.
The victim, also a DU female student, filed the case with Lalbagh Police Station.
The five other accused are convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council Hasan Al Mamun, joint conveners Nazmul Hasan Sohagh and Saiful Islam, vice-president of the organisation’s DU unit Nazmul Huda and Abdullah Hil Baki.
As per the case statement, Mamun raped the victim with a false promise of marriage.
When she sought justice to Nur, he threatened to assassinate her character with the help of others if she did not keep mum.
Meanwhile, the Ducsu VP was released one hour after his arrest in the rape case on Monday.
He was set free around 9:30pm, said Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch of police Mahbub Alam.
Nur was detained from Shahbagh area around 8:30pm also on charge of attacking police. Later, he was taken to the DB office from where he was freed.
Protesting the filing of the case, Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council staged demonstrations at the foot of Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus.
It was alleged that police were attacked from the protest programme.
