A Noakhali court on Sunday placed Delwar Hossain Delu, the kingpin of Delwar Bahini, on a seven-day remand in three cases filed over the brutal gang assault on a woman and raping her in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Masfiqul Haque passed the order when police produced him before the court seeking a 17-day remand in the three cases.
Delwar was put on a five-remand in the rape case while on a two-day one in two other cases –- one filed under the Arms Act and the other under the Explosive Substances Act, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam Harun.
Besides, he was shown arrested in two murder cases filed with Begumganj Police Station.
A video clip of the woman being tortured after being stripped by a group of men went viral on social media which triggered outcry.
In the video, the group was seen slapping, kicking and punching the woman.
Relatives alleged that the woman has been residing in her father’s house after her separation with her husband.
On September 2 last, her former husband came to meet her.
At that time, the gang tied him up after labelling him stranger and tortured the woman after stripping off her clothes.
However, no one dared to speak about the incident as the torturers were influential.
Meanwhile, the video clip went viral on the social networking site.
Delwar also raped the victim multiple times before the September 2 incident.
