The judicial probe committee formed to look into the failure of the local administration and the college authorities over the gang-rape of a young woman at an MC College dormitory in Sylhet has submitted its report to the High Court.
The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim received the 176-page report on Tuesday.
The court ordered for keeping the case on the cause list of November 1 for hearing.
On September 27, the HC ordered judicial probe into the failure of the local administration and the college authorities over the gang-rape of the young woman and directed for submitting the probe report within 15 days.
At the same time, it issued a rule asking to know why action should not be taken against the college authorities over the rape incident.
Following the court order, a judicial probe committee was formed with the judge of the Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and Additional Deputy Commissioner.
Lawyer Hafiz Mohammad Mijbah Uddin had filed the writ over the gang-rape of the young woman.
A group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League reportedly gang-raped the young woman after confining her husband to a room of MC College hostel in Sylhet on September 25.
The victim’s husband filed a case with Shah Poran Police Station against six named accused and three unnamed ones.
Sources said the young couple went to visit the MC College campus in the evening when a group of BCL men picked them up and took them to the hostel.
They confined the victim’s husband to a room and raped her in turns.
On information, police rescued the couple around 11pm.
Law enforcers have so far arrested eight accused over the incident. All of them were sent to jail after they made confession before the court following remand.
Besides, the National University (NU) revoked the studentship and certificates of four of them over the incident.
Those got their studentship and certificates revoked are Saifur Rahman, prime accused, and Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Rabiul Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum.
