The High Court on Tuesday granted an eight-week bail to Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury (Nixon Chowdhury), MP, in a case filed by the Election Commission (EC) over issuing threat to the deputy commissioner of the district and using abusive words on upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Charbhadrasan upazila.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by the MP.
On Sunday, Nixon filed a petition with the High Court on Sunday seeking interim bail in the case.
Dr Shahdeed Malik stood for Nixon Chowdhury, independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency.
Earlier on October 15, the EC filed the case against him with Charbhadrasan Police Station for violating the electoral code of conduct.
Nixon reportedly threatened DC Atul Sarker over the arrest of his supporters during Charbhadrasan upazila parishad by-polls.
He made the threat at a victory rally held in front of Charbhadrasan upazila Awami League office on October 11 after Awami League candidate Md Kawsar Hossain won the election.
