A sub-inspector has been suspended for destroying the evidence of the torture in custody which led to the death of Raihan Ahmed in Sylhet and helping flee suspended sub-inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan.
The action was taken against Hasan Uddin on Wednesday, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police BM Asraf Ullah Taher.
The accused police officer was also taken into custody, he said.
Hasan reportedly destroyed the CCTV footage of the incident and helped Akbar flee.
On Monday, the Police Headquarters formed a three-member panel to investigate how suspended sub-inspector Akbar, who was accused of torturing Raihan to death in custody, fled.
Raihan was tortured to death at Bandarbazar Police Outpost in Sylhet city on October 11.
His wife filed a case in this regard.
Four policemen, including in-charge of Bandarbazar police outpost SI Akbar, were earlier suspended and three others withdrawn over the incident.
However, Akbar fled on October 13 and he still remained traceless.
