A fresh tally of 1,696 infections from coronavirus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2, in the previous 24 hours till Thursday has taken the total cases in Bangladesh to 394,827. 

The virus-related deaths in the country have reached 5,747 after 24 more people died due to Covid-19, a disease caused by the coronavirus, during the period.

Of the new deceased, 18 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 4,422 or 76.94 percent are men while 1,325 or 23.06 percent are women.

Currently, there are 78,548 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 1,687 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 310,532.

During the period, 14,958 samples were tested in 110 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,221,369 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 11.34 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 17.77 percent.

The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 78.65 percent.

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.46 percent.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh logged 24 deaths and 1,545 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,086 samples with a positivity rate of 10.97 percent.

Meanwhile, a record 442,055 people were diagnosed with coronavirus around the world in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday.

In total, the confirmed infections from the virus have surged to 41,484,634 across the globe.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has jumped to 1,136,335 globally, according to tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 9,437,420 patients, 9,363,250 are in mild condition while 74,170 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 30,904,306 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 282,462 recuperated in the last 24 hours.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 8,584,819 and 227,409 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 7,705,158 and third highest fatalities of 116,653 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 155,459 and third highest cases of 5,300,649.
