Former captain of Bangladesh National Football team and sports organiser Badal Roy has passed away at a hospital in the capital after fighting various ailments, including cancer. He was 63.
He breathed his last on Sunday afternoon.
Badal Roy had been in the intensive care unit for the last several days after he was taken to the private hospital.
He got one of the sides of his body paralysed after suffering a brain haemorrhage in 2017. Recently, he was diagnosed with stage-4 liver cancer.
Badal Roy played for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the 80’s. He played with equal dominance in the national team.
After serving as the joint secretary of Bangladesh Football Federation, he was elected its vice-president for three consecutive times.
National award-winning star footballer was also vice-president of Bangladesh Olympic Association and treasurer of the National Sports Council.
He took part in the 1991 general election from Daudkandi constituency in Cumilla on Awami League ticket.
