Mentioning that the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will surely be erected, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Saturday said no one has the power to obstruct its installation.
He made the remarks while addressing a programme organised by Dhaka South City unit of Awami League marking the 14th death anniversary of former city AL president and former Dhaka City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Hanif.
Hanif, also MP from Kushtia-3 constituency, said a section of people is heating up the field in the name of alem-ulema. “There’s no room of extremism in Islam.”
He said those who issue threat of Shapla Chattar should feel ashamed…. no threat will work. They should have idea about the power of the government.”
The government has moved to erect a 26-foot high sculpture of Bangabandhu at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
However, different quarters are opposing the government move.
