A case has been filed against 36 people, including Mamunul Haque, acting secretary general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh, on charge of killing Hefajat Ameer Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi in a planned way.
Accepting the charge, the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation to probe it.
Earlier, leaders of a faction of Hefajat claimed that Allah Ahmed Shafi was killed in a planned way and demanded judicial investigation into it.
They alleged that he was left to die due to gradual torture after being confined.
The leaders also claimed that Allama Ahmed Shafi was left without food and medicine which led to his death.
The Hefajat chief passed away at a Dhaka hospital on September 18 due to aging-related complications at the age of 103.
