Bangladesh has moved two notches up to the 133th spot among 185 countries in the 2020 Human Development Index, according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Human Development Index is the measure of a nation's health, education and standards of living.
Life expectancy of Bangladeshis is 72.6 years while that in India is 69.7 years and Pakistan 67.3 years, according to the report.
Bangladesh became fifth among eight countries in South Asia with Sri Lanka bagging the top spot at 72nd followed by the Maldives (95th) Bhutan (129th), India (131st), Nepal (142nd) and Pakistan (154th).
Bangladesh’s HDI value is 0.478 which put it in the medium human development category.
Norway topped the index, followed by Ireland and Switzerland.
