Reported coronavirus infections in Bangladesh have reached 498,293 with the detection of 1,318 fresh cases in the latest 24 hours till Friday.

Besides, the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, killed 25 more people during the period to take the national death toll to 7,217.

Of the new deceased, 16 are men and nine are women. Among the total dead, 5,505 or 76.28 percent are men while 1,712 or 23.72 percent are women.

Currently, there are 57,462 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 2,024 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 433,614. 

During the period, 14,336 samples were tested in 140 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,050,064 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 9.19 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 16.34 percent.

The recovery rate in Bangladesh improved further to 87.02 percent. 

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.45 percent.

On Thursday, the country registered 36 deaths and 1,134 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,191 samples with a positivity rate of 8.60 percent.

Meanwhile, the world is buckling under the coronavirus as it recorded highest daily cases of 748,643 in the last 24 hours till 10am on Friday.

In total, the confirmed infections have reached 75,282,798 around the world, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Besides, the virus took away the lives of 13,130 people during the period, bringing the total casualties to 1,668,356.

Of the currently infected 20,761,840 patients, 20,654,635 are in mild condition while 107,205 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 52,852,602 people have made recovery from Covid-19 globally.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 17,626,770 and 317,928 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 9,979,447 and third highest fatalities of 144,829 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 184,876 and third highest cases of 7,111,527.
