Now, Bagha Jatin’s sculpture vandalised in Kushtia

Now, the sculpture of Bagha Jatin, an anti-colonialism activist, has been vandalised in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.

The incident took place sometime on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

Police have already launched a drive to hunt down the culprits.

Bagha Jatin, whose real was Jatindranath Mukherjee, was the principal leader of Jugantar party which was the central association of revolutionary freedom fighters in Bengal.

He was born in Kumarkhali in 1879 and died in 1915 at the age of only 35.

Earlier, an under-construction sculpture of Father of the Nation the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was vandalised in the district town on December 4.

In the surveillance video, the madrasa students, clad in panjabis and caps, were seen walking towards the under-construction sculpture and climbing up a ladder around 2am on Saturday before smashing it with hammers.

Police arrested the duo and two madrasa teachers over the incident.
