Twelve people were killed and five others injured as a train crashed into a bus at a level crossing in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district on Saturday morning.
The deceased could not be identified yet.
Witnesses said the Rajshahi-bound ‘Uttara Express’ from Dhaka hit the Hili-bound bus at Puranpoil level crossing around 7am.
The bus got twisted after the accident, leaving 10 of its passengers dead on the spot, said Sirajul Islam, an officer of Joypurhat Fire Service.
On information, police, firefighters and members of Border Guard Bangladesh rushed in and carried out the rescue operation.
The injured were taken to hospital where two of them died.
The condition of the injured was also stated to be critical.
The accident snapped the rail communications of the northern districts with the capital and other parts of the country.
