The mother of two children aged below three, who were alienated from their parents for five days following their incarceration, has finally secured bail in a case filed by their maternal grandmother.
The High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Wasima Khatun, mother of Yasin, aged two and half, and Tumpa, aged three and half.
However, the bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman did not grant bail to the children’s father, Mohammad Tofail.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Dhaka court denied bail to the couple when the two children were seen crying at the court for their parents.
Neighbours took them to the court as they have no relatives to look after them.
Wasima’s mother Momena Begum filed the case against them on charge of theft and beating her following a family feud.
The couple had been in jail since Friday last. Later, the two children took shelter in their neighbour’s house at Bangshal.
They went to the court on Tuesday with their neighbours when Judge M Mamunur Rashid denied bail to their parents.
The court also show-caused an on-duty police officer over their crying at the court.
