Mentioning that Bangladesh is observing the global coronavirus situation following the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus in other countries, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali has said international flights will be suspended if necessary to contain it.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters on Thursday.
The new strain of coronavirus has been identified in the UK, several other European countries, Australia and South Africa.
It causes the same medical conditions as the original but is 70 percent more-infectious and "out of control".
Many countries have suspended flights to and from the UK following the emergence of the new virus variant.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) has said it has found the genome of a coronavirus having similarity with that was found in Britain.
BCSIR sequenced the genomes of five samples of coronavirus at the beginning of November when characteristics of the virus detected in Britain were found in the mutation.
It is trying to locate the virus bearer.
