Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has called for creating scope for honest and dedicated people in the politics eliminating the corrupt elements.
He made the call while addressing a commemorative meeting on former captain of Bangladesh National Football team and sports organiser Badal Roy on Saturday.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, joined the programme from his official residence.
Mentioning that Badal Roy was an honest and skilled footballer and organiser, he said the legend had proved that there is no scope of politics in sports.
The minister called for creating more scope for youths to get engaged in sports, saying they will get involved in anti-social activities, including taking drugs, if otherwise.
He also said some are using sports federations to make their own fortunes, calling for breaking the chain.
Quader urged all to face the coronavirus situation unitedly through abiding by health guidelines.
Badal Roy passed away in the capital on November 22 after fighting various ailments, including cancer.
Badal Roy played for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the 80’s. He played with equal dominance in the national team.
After serving as the joint secretary of Bangladesh Football Federation, he was elected its vice-president for three consecutive times.
National award-winning star footballer was also vice-president of Bangladesh Olympic Association and treasurer of the National Sports Council.
He took part in the 1991 general election from Daudkandi constituency in Cumilla on Awami League ticket.
