Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 509,148 with the registration of 1,049 more infections over the last 24 hours till Sunday.
Besides, the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, claimed the lives of 24 more people during the period to take the national death toll to 7,452.
Of the new deceased, 16 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 5,675 or 76.15 percent are men while 1,777 or 23.85 percent are women.
Currently, there are 49,735 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 1,473 more people recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries to 451,961.
The recovery rate also continued to improve in the country standing at 88.77 percent.
During the period, 12,650 samples were tested in 167 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,171,910 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 8.29 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 16.05 percent.
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.46 percent.
On Saturday, the country logged 30 deaths and 834 infections from coronavirus after testing 9,912 samples with a positivity rate of 8.41 percent.
Meanwhile, the world has seen a fall in coronavirus infections as it recorded 510,703 cases over the last 24 hours till 10am on Sunday to take the total to 80,717,858.
Besides, the death toll has reached 1,764,621 around the world, including 6,981 deaths reported during the period, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 22,044,375 patients, 21,938,839 are in mild condition while 105,536 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 56,908,862 people have made recovery from Covid-19 globally.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 19,433,847 and 339,921 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,188,392 and third highest fatalities of 147,659 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 190,815 and third highest cases of 7,465,806.
