Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said BNP loses before the victory and defeat are determined in any election as its confidence has hit the rock bottom.
He made the remarks during a briefing on contemporary issues at his official residence.
Comparing BNP’s politics with a tortoise, Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said they raise their head sometimes but hide it soon afterwards.
He said BNP took part in the 2018 general election only to make it controversial. “BNP wanted to hamper the constitutional continuity and jeopardise democracy.”
About the allegation made by BNP leaders that the government is using court through different verdicts, the ruling party leader said the judiciary is completely independent. “The government has no interference in the higher and lower courts.”
Asked about the allegation that the government wants to alienate BNP, he termed it baseless, saying they want the party to play the role of a strong and responsible opposition.
