The helper of a bus was arrested on Monday morning over the alleged rape attempt on a female college student in the moving vehicle in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj.

The arrestee is Rashid, said Khaleduzzaman, superintendent of police of Sylhet Police Bureau of Investigation.

The college girl jumped off the moving bus at Sujanagar of Dirai on Saturday night to escape the rape attempt on her, leaving her seriously injured.

The victim boarded the Dirai-bound bus from Sylhet on Saturday after visiting her sister’s house.

When the bus reached Sujanagar village around 9pm, the victim was the lone passenger.

Finding her alone, the driver and helper of the bus tried to rape her.

However, she jumped off the bus in a bid to evade the rape attempt, leaving her seriously injured.

Police seized the bus, said officer-in-charge of Dirai Police Station Mohammad Ashraful Islam.
