With India approving the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University for emergency use, Bangladesh is expected to get the jab in the first week of February.

India’s drug regulator on Friday approved the vaccine, paving the way for Bangladesh to get it through the Serum Institute of India.

India was scheduled to start administering the shots on Saturday.

Health Services Division Secretary Abdul Mannan said the vaccine will arrive in Bangladesh in the first week of February.

Meanwhile, experts have called for completing the preparations to roll out the vaccine and ensuring fair distribution.

Bangladesh has signed a deal with the Serum Institute of India and local company Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd to procure 3 crore doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine with 50 lakh arriving in every lot.
