The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed for giving the students of secondary schools ID numbers instead of roll numbers in the New Year.

A notice signed by its Director General Prof Dr Syed M Golam Faruk was sent to headmasters, thana education officers, district education officers and DSHE regional directors on Monday in this regard.

According to the notice, it had not been possible to take annual examinations from Class-VI to X due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Students were evaluated based on assignments. “So, there’s a mixed reaction among students and their guardians whether it will be appropriate to give roll numbers based on the evaluation.”

The DSHE has proposed two systems for providing ID numbers – either randomly or as per the alphabetical orders of the students’ names.
