A Dhaka court on Tuesday deferred for the 31st time the hearing on the charge-framing in the Niko graft case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 fixed January 15 for the next hearing following a time petition filed by the BNP chief’s lawyers as she could not appear before it due to illness.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against 11 people, including Khaleda Zia, with Tejgaon Police Station in the capital on December 9, 2007 for abusing power in signing a deal with Canadian company Niko for exploring and extracting gas.
The ACC on May 5, 2008, submitted the charge-sheet against them. The ACC accused them of incurring a loss of more than Tk 13,777 crore to the state exchequer.
