Teachers of 315 private colleges have threatened to go on a fast unto death if they are not brought under the monthly pay order (MPO) facilities.
Bangladesh Private College Honours-Masters Teachers’ Federation made the threat from a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Wednesday.
Citing Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni’s recent remarks that there will be no Honours and Masters courses at the 315 private colleges but short courses, the teachers said there is no specific directive in this regard.
The Honours and Masters courses are there in the private colleges since 1993 under the National University.
The teachers said they have been providing higher education although they are deprived of all government facilities for the last 28 years.
Although over 300 colleges were nationalised over the years, teachers of the 315 colleges were not brought under the MPO facilities, they said.
Demanding that they be brought under the MPO facilities soon, the teachers threatened to go on a fast unto death if otherwise.
