Director (EPI) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Shamsul Haque has said Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Bangladesh from India by January 26 next.
He made the comments while talking to vernacular daily the Kaler Kantho on Sunday night.
Dr Shamsul said they were informed on Sunday that the Covid-19 vaccine will come by January 20-26 from India. “The date might be fixed at January 26 from the ministry.”
The Serum Institute of India will provide 3 crore doses of Covishield vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca to Bangladesh through its local supplier Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Around 60 lakh doses of vaccine will arrive in the country in the first phase. Of them, 50 lakh will come under the government management while 10 lakh by Beximco for private marketing.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque is supposed to speak at a press conference today in this regard.
