Councillor candidate found dead after clash kills one in Jhenaidah

A councillor candidate in Shailakupa municipality polls in Jhenaidah was found dead on Wednesday night, five hours after a clash between his supporters and another contestant left one person dead.

The deceased were identified as councillor contestant Alamgir Khan Babu and Liakat Ali, acting general secretary of Umedpur union unit of Awami League and brother of another councillor candidate Shawkat Ali.

Witnesses said the supporters of Shawkat and Babu, councillor candidates in ward-8 of the municipality, engaged in a clash while campaigning at Kabirpur around 7pm.

The skirmish left five people, including Liakat, injured.

The injured were taken to hospital where doctors declared Liakat dead.
 
Babu went into hiding after the incident.

However, his body was found in Kumar canal around 11:55pm.

It was still not sure how he died.
