Over 500 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire at Nayapara Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.

However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner M Samsuzzoha Nayon said the fire erupted at the Rohingya camp around 3am.

On information, firefighters rushed in and brought the fire under control after two hours, he said.

Nayon, however, could not say anything about the reason behind the fire.

He also said the work is on to estimate the extent of losses caused by the fire.
