Ruling Awami League has replaced the charge-sheeted accused in the Lokman killing case with another one as the party candidate in the Narsingdi municipality election.

The party has now chosen Narsingdi town AL general secretary Amzad Hossain Bachchu for the mayoral race removing Ashraf Hossain Sarkar.

On January 13, the AL Local Government Election Nomination Board picked Ashraf, a suspected killer of Narsingdi municipality mayor Lokman Hossain, as the party contestant for the mayoral post.

However, it cancelled his nomination on Thursday in a letter sent to the retuning officer of the election.

Narsingdi municipality will go to polls on February 14 in the fourth phase of the municipal elections.
