Bangladesh on Monday reported 697 more coronavirus infections over the last 24 hours to take the total caseload to 528,329.

Besides, the death toll from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, has reached 7,922 after 16 more people succumbed to it during the period.

Of the new deceased, 12 are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 6,004 are men while 1,918 are women.

Currently, there are 47,234 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 736 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 473,173.

The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.56 per cent.

During the period, 12,707 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,470,160 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 5.49 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.22 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.50 per cent.

On Sunday, the country registered 23 deaths and 569 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,446 samples with a positivity rate of 4.23 per cent.

Meanwhile, confirmed coronavirus cases around the world have jumped to 95,482,598 as of Monday morning.

Besides, the virus has so far claimed the lives of 2,039,653 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,273,631 patients, 25,160,446 are in mild condition while 113,185 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 68,169,314 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 24,482,050 and 407,202respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,572,672 and third highest fatalities of 152,456 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 209,868 and third highest cases of 8,488,099.
