Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury on Friday said people will be interested to take Covid-19 vaccine if the vaccination begins with administering the jab to the prime minister.

He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion organised by Gonoshasthaya Kendra on proper management of Covid-19 vaccine.

Dr Zafrullah said the government is giving financial facilities to a certain company allowing it to import vaccine with any tender and investment. “Per doses of vaccine of $2 will be sold to people at Tk $5 to give the company facilities.”

He also said it will not be right to allow import of vaccine at the private level until the vaccination under the government arrangement ends. “If so, the price of vaccine will go high and there’ll be adulterated jab.”

The Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder also called for waging a movement to prevent the import of vaccine at the private level if necessary.
