Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday handed over concrete houses among around 70,000 landless and homeless families marking the Mujib Borsho.
She inaugurated the distribution virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban in the morning.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister termed the day a very happy one for her. “It’s a matter of great pleasure to give the landless and homeless land and houses,” she said.
She said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman always thought of poor people worked for them. “This house distribution programme was initiated by him.”
The houses were handed over as part of the government’s initiative to build houses for 885,622 during the Mujib Borsho when the birth centenary of Bangabandhu is being celebrated.
Of the beneficiaries, those have land are getting only houses and those have no land are receiving houses along with two decimals of land.
