A Narail court on Thursday sentenced acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to two years’ imprisonment in a case for making disparaging remarks on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Judge of the Judicial Magistrate Court-2 Amatul Morsheda also fined him Tk 10,000.

According to the prosecution, Tarique who has been staying in London at a rally on December 16, 2016 made derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu, including calling him Razakar.

Former commander of Kalia upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad and Awami League activist Shahjahan Biswas filed a case with a local court on December 24 of that year in this regard.
