Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 485 fresh cases

The coronavirus caseload in Bangladesh has reached 537,030 after 485 more people tested positive for the virus over the previous 24 hours till Thursday.

Besides, 13 new fatalities were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period to push the national death tally to 8,175.

Of the new deceased, eight are men and five are women. Among the total dead, 6,196 are men while 1,979 are women.

Currently, there are 46,938 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 611 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 481,917. 

The recovery rate also stands at 89.74 per cent.

During the period, 15,273 samples were tested in 206 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,708,907 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate -- an indicator of the prevalence of the disease -- was recorded at 3.18 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.48 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.52 per cent.

On Wednesday, the country registered 13 deaths and 438 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,985 samples with a positivity rate of 2.92 per cent.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases across the world have climbed to 104,907,179 as of Thursday morning.

Besides, 2,278,533 people have so far died from the virus infections globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,851,491 patients, 25,888,992 are in mild condition while 106,524 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 76,777,155 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 27,150,457 and 461,930 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,791,123 and third highest fatalities of 154,742 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 227,592 and third highest cases of 9,339,921.Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 485 fresh cases
